Guide: French schools in Marrakech

Marrakech has two schools accredited by the AEFE, the agency that runs French schools abroad. They are the Cité scolaire Victor Hugo (from the first year of nursery to the final year of secondary school, terminale) and the Groupe scolaire Jacques Majorelle (from the first year of nursery to the end of lower secondary, 3e). Both are in Targa. You apply online, from January to March, for a September start.

The two schools

School Status Years Pupils Address Website
Lycée Victor Hugo and école Renoir Run directly by the AEFE First year of nursery to terminale 2,356 Route de la Targa lvhma.org
Groupe scolaire Jacques Majorelle AEFE partner, Mission laïque network (OSUI) First year of nursery to 3e 731 Lot vivrier n° 3, Targa mlfmonde.org/majorelle

École Auguste Renoir is not a separate school. It is the primary section of the Cité scolaire Victor Hugo. There is no other accredited French school in Marrakech, so every pupil goes to Victor Hugo for the lycée years. Victor Hugo also offers an Arabic international section and the French international baccalaureate (BFI).

The Victor Hugo canteen costs about 8,000 MAD a year for 5 meals a week (3,102 + 2,303 + 2,585 MAD per term).

The Jacques Majorelle fees come from the official EFM fee table, which states that some 2026-2027 fees were not yet final. Check with the school.

How to apply

  1. Everything is done online on the EFM website (Enseignement français au Maroc, the French school network in Morocco), for both schools.
  2. For the September 2026 start, applications ran from 5 January to 11 March 2026. Results came out on 8 April, and families had 72 hours to confirm. The 2027 calendar has not been published yet, but expect the same pattern.
  3. Late applications are accepted after the deadline, as long as places are free.
  4. French pupils get priority. So do pupils who have spent 2 full years out of the last 3 in a French school.
  5. For the first year of nursery and the first year of primary (CP), the family and the child have a 30-minute interview. From the second year of primary (CE1) to the first year of lycée (seconde), a committee reviews school reports.

Documents: livret de famille (French family record book), ID for the child and the parents (or residence permit), certificate of school attendance, proof of address in Marrakech, and school reports from CE1 onwards. A family that is new to the country must explain why it is moving to Morocco.

School grants (bourses scolaires)

French families on modest incomes can apply for a grant at the Consulate General of France in Marrakech. It covers all or part of the tuition.

The conditions:

  • The child is French, is at least 3 years old in the year the school year starts, and lives with a parent in the consulate's district.
  • The child and the parent applying are registered on the Register of French Nationals Abroad (Registre des Français de l'étranger).
  • Income is within the AEFE scale, and there is a ceiling on assets.
  • The grant cannot be combined with CAF family benefits.

The calendar: a first round from January to March (deadline 16 February 2026 for the 2026-2027 school year), then a second round in summer for families who arrived in the meantime (13 July to 14 September 2026). You apply in person, by appointment. The 2027-2028 round has not been announced yet.

Other options

  • American School of Marrakesh, route de Ouarzazate: American curriculum and International Baccalaureate. From 78,000 MAD a year in nursery to 164,300 MAD in high school, plus a 25,000 MAD enrolment fee.
  • British Academy School Marrakech, Targa: English curriculum, from nursery to A levels. Fees are not published online.
  • CNED: the French state distance-learning school. Its regulated class (classe réglementée) gives proper academic follow-up and qualifies for school grants, but it needs approval from the cultural service of the French embassy. Check fees on cned.fr.

Not yet confirmed

  • The final 2026-2027 fees at Jacques Majorelle.
  • The application and grant calendar for the September 2027 start.
